Environmental Noise Surveys

Environmental noise surveys are required for many different reasons such as to gain planning permission, to assess the impact of noise due to a development or factory, to assess the exposure to noise in the workplace or for long term monitoring purposes such as by a new road or railway.

Another common issue is noise complaints in built up areas where the source could be loud music, traffic or lack of privacy due to poor sound insulation or speech being clearly audible from outside of a dwelling.

Using Sound Level Meters and audiometry, acoustics data can be gathered to assess noise levels and determine whether the health and safety of any exposed individuals is compromised or if the ecology of the area may be affected by noise.

Noise survey reports are required in many different fields, and we offer guidance and services which include:

  • Environmental noise surveys
  • Sound insulation noise surveys
  • Occupational noise surveys
  • Industrial and commercial noise surveys
  • Building noise surveys
  • Monitoring of construction noise

We use professional grade 'Class 1' sound level meters to undertake any test to ensure accuracy and confidence in our measurements.

Measurements in environmental noise tend to start in the planning and design phases to provide a 'Before' baseline reading. Once a site or noise source is present, there will be several days of measurements taken and these will undergo statistical analysis to produce a summarised noise assessment report.

These readings can be taken in an automated manner over greater periods of time, but also attended measurement sessions may be required should the nature of the noise source require observation.
